Summary:

On the eve of the Second World War, a wealthy widow (Carey Mulligan) hires an amateur archaeologist (Ralph Fiennes) to excavate the burial mounds on her estate. When they make a historic discovery of a wooden ship from the Dark Ages, the echoes of Britain's past resonate in the face of its uncertain future. Australian director Simon Stone’s film has an undercurrent of real emotion which sensitively conveys the fragility of lives and time with a rare, old-school honesty.

What the Critics say:

"This bittersweet tale of the unearthing of the Sutton Hoo treasures has gentle charm to spare."  (Mark Kermode - Observer)
